 Chemoprevention

Women can consider taking anti hormonal breast cancer medication to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer. Drugs commonly used are Tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors (Letrozole, Anastrazole or Exemestane) and have been shown to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer amongst those at increased risk.
Almost 70-80% of BRCA1 related breast cancer are NOT sensitive to hormone (triple negative breast cancers). Counselling in this group needs to consider limited effectiveness in reducing the number of hormone insensitive breast cancer.
