Modification of lifestyle, diet and environment may potentially prevent a third of breast cancers. Amongst BRCA carriers, maintaining healthy BMI <25, undertaking 150 minutes of weekly activity and limiting alcohol intake from adolescence can reduce breast cancer mortality by 60%. Smoking amongst BRCA carriers prior to first full-time pregnancy may be associated with an increased breast cancer risk.
