My name is Naren Basu. I am one of the oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgeons working hereat the Priory Hospital in Birmingham.
Breast cancer screening in the UK was developed in 1988 and we've been inviting women aged 50 to 70 to have mammograms every three years to identify breast cancer at an early stage or an early presentation, so we can make a positive outcome.

The reason we chose that age group is that in younger women, breast tissue tends to be quite dense, making it quite difficult for mammograms to be very useful.

If someone has an increased risk profile, like family history, we would offer them a different type of screening surveillance.

If you have noticed any changes to the breast or have any breast cancer concerns, please see a healthcare professional or come and see our multidisciplinary breast team at the Priory Hospital in Birmingham, Spire Parkway and Spire Little Aston.
