What is magseed and how can it benefit women with breast cancer

My name is Naren Basu. I am one of the Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeons working here at the Priory Hospital in Birmingham. When we recommend women a lumpectomy or what we call breast conserving surgery, sometimes what we're trying to remove is a very small lump.
Historically, we have been placing a wire under a local anaesthetic on the day of surgery to enable us to do that. Healthcare innovations have now really moved forward and we can place a magnetic seed which is an electronic device well in advance of the surgery and it's the size of a grain of rice almost and that allows us to identify the area that we need to remove with a view to removing it on the day of surgery.
So it's a real modern technology and we're quite happy here at the Priory to be recommending and offering MagseedĀ®.
If you have noticed any changes to the breast or have any breast cancer concerns, please see a healthcare professional or come and see our multidisciplinary breast team at the Priory Hospital in Birmingham, Spire Parkway and Spire Little Aston.
